Just as you can't tell how many people voted AGAINST him based on race.|||I think a lot of people may have done that but I think the main reason he won so easily was because they spent a couple billion dollars to promote him. He had a lot of people on his staff that were hired to "paint his profile perfect", and they did just that.|||why do so many people say " my president is black!" when he is half black...even then the half black that he is is from Africa and not black american...black americans shouldn't get all that excited..|||As quoted by Samuel L. Jackson when asked this question
A chuckle and "Is there any that didn't"|||I didn't vote just because he was black but because he had better plans then John McCain would ever have. I have faith in him to turn this country around. I know he will do well with a lot of support.|||A lot, A lot off blacks voted for him because he would be the first "Half Black" president.|||whats balck?|||Balck? Is that a new political term?|||In my opinion there is a lot. This demography would want a black president
1. to show off to the world that the US is progressive enough and accepting of multiculturalism to vote a president who is not traditionally white.
2. showing off to the world that its non white population has top notch members.
3. because they are non white themselves.
4. to make it a point to be the first to prove "progressive forward thinking", and prove leadership to the rest of the world.
I am reading my own answer above and realized that I have used the words "show off" a few times. Freudian slip? A subconciously realized observation?
Geez, I hope not. I hope that pride is not the reason he got elected.
Why not? Is that pride misplaced you ask?|||Obama received about 5% more of the African American vote than is usual for a Democratic nominee. The desire to see a black man become president was quite likely a factor.
Still, I don't know anyone who said openly that they would vote for Obama solely because he was black. The only time I ever saw that sort of reasoning was in an editorial by a former Hillary supporter who claimed to endorse McCain solely to see a woman become vice president.
After Colin Powell endorsed Obama on Meet the Press last fall, many Republicans accused him of doing it because of race, but Powell gave a detailed explanation for his endorsement in which he said nothing about the subject of race until the interviewer brought it up, and then he categorically denied his endorsement was a race-based decision.
You can always speculate that someone's motives are different from their stated reasons, but the fact remains that most Obama supporters did not say they were voting solely, or even predominantly, because of race. Many of them were excited about the prospect of a black president, but then so were many people who did not support Obama. Getting excited about seeing a historical barrier broken doesn't mean it's the entire basis for how you voted.|||A lot.|||I don't care much for balcks, but some of my best friends are black|||Same amount of people who support Condi Rice just because she is black
