What type of grass is used in professional golf couses?

I want to know what kind of grass they use for the greens for pro golf courses, how can they cut it that short? What type of grass is used in professional golf couses?Different courses use different grasses.

Bent grass is popular the further north you are (the heat can scorch it in the south).

Different bermuda strands are most popular in the south.

There are others, too. Many of these strains have been tweaked genetially over the past 30 years or so.

These grasses are cut with a reel mower.|||To correct an earlier poster - "centipede" is NOT a golfcourse grass and is not used, except in rare cases of the very lowest rung of "dog track courses."

To answer the OPs question - different courses use different grasses, with the course's geographic location being the primary concern. Bent grasses do better in cooler climates, while bermuda does better in hotter southern climates. Poa Anna grasses have been slowly moving there way from out west. There are many "dwarf" varieties of grasses that can be cut extremely short, and are developed for that purpose. What type of grass is used in professional golf couses?I have worked at a top ten course in the country and we have bent grass. But bent grass doesnt do that great in high tempertures. So any course in the south will have bermuda grass at least for the greens. Bent grass can be cut lower and therefore be faster. Courses like Merion and Oakmont have bent and are unbelievably fast and can become almost unfair if they are firm.|||Bent grassWhat type of grass is used in professional golf couses?they use all different types, bermuda, centipede, and Bent
