How can liberals ignore that Obama 's lackluster response to the oil spill?

And before anyone accuses conservatives of being anti government, protecting our borders and shores IS a federal responsibility. The Constitution gives the federal government control of the waterways.

So educate yourselves before you answer the question.

Obama: More GULF less GOLF!|||They are so indoctrinated to see oil as a Bush thing. You would think Bush invented the stuff.

My girl-friend just found oily shells on the beach this morning and called the Coast Guard who called the eco people who went to her house to pick up the shells for testing. I don't live anywhere near where they're saying the spill is, btw.

We are not being told the truth. I don't care who cleans it up, let's get it cleaned up. Do you know how many millions of people rely on the Gulf?|||I think there is more that could have been done certainly I don't ignore that. But to claim he didn't respond is also 100 percent not true. Obama immediately had the coast guard and epa dispatched. Also contrary to fox news' report that he blocked foreign ships from aiding due to the Jones Act 5 foreign companies were allowed in to participate in the clean up immediately. The 6th was declined as it was the most expensive and offered nothing the other 5 didn't, this is perfectly normal. No one was denied due to Jones Act.

They couldn't figure out how to fix the leak, and stil can't. That is not Obama's fault. Obama does not regulate the laws of physics. Where I do hold Obama more accountable is that off shore drilling should not be allowed period. He had the time and the authority to stop off shore drilling and did not do so.|||Obama is preoccupied with watching Hillary over his shoulder out of fear that she will jump ship and challenge him for the 2012 nomination. And her husband Bill is even dropping hints that she will do exactly that, after his recent televised suggestion that the ultimate resolution to the oil spill might involve "blowing up" something down in the gushing deep water well.

By failing to put his money where his mouth is ( "foot on the throat of BP" and "kicking asses" ) Obama has hung his credibility and political future on the assumption that BP's relief wells will actually solve the problem in August. If they DON'T, it will be up to someone else to come up with a better idea, and Clinton has made the first alternate plan that I have heard of. And if indeed Bill's Blowup Blast works, then Obama will be history.|||I won't accuse a conservative of being anti-government, only anti-environment and pro business.

Obama did not have any lack luster response to the spill. The Navy and Coast Guard were at the site conducting burnings within hours. Obama was at the site within days. He was just not in front of cameras until a week.

Bush took more vacation days than any other President by the way. This was after he had decided to invade Iraq and create a huge debacle.|||It's now obvious that our federal government was not prepared for this disaster, and neither was BP or any of the oil companies. Whose fault is that? I'd say we have to look back at least the last 30 years and every President along the way must share the blame. The federal agencies that should have been watching big oil have not done their job. Congress has not passed the right legislation to prevent and mitigate a situation like this.

Obama is playing catch up. He's not blameless, but you can't lay the bulk of the fault at his door.|||Liberals know Obama's agenda surrounding the oil spill is to pass his energy bill. He doesn't give a damn about the people in the gulf states who are suffering because of this, and I can tell you right now that there are very few liberals living down there so they sure don't know what's really happening on our beaches. The Liberals live in a very different world than the rest of us. In their world there is no logic or sense of patriotism.|||NORM! Are you secretly are Marxist socialist pinko bed wetting commie? I thought you neocons didn't want government interference? OH, I GET IT! You only want gov't interference when you SCREW UP! So in response to your question, it's easy to "ignore Obama's lackluster response." After all I'm just left wing loon who voted for the guy!|||To admit that Obama is incompetent is difficult, it destroys their illusions of him being a great President. They want him to succeed so bad because if he doesn't then they think we will never elect a black person again. So they cover for him in the hopes that he will get it together and they can champion him as being one of the best ever. You know the rhetoric, he saved us from the great depression, he got us respect on the Global Stage, etc. He had better get busy, because with all the failures adding up, he is going to be Championed the same way Jimmy Carter was, on the bottom tier of Presidents.|||They aren't ignoring it - many are being very vocal about it, and the others are buying into his nonsense that it's Bush's fault and BP's fault.

As for my own opinion on this lack of response, please save me some typing and see my other answer here ...

Note to "it's me" - you need to back off your name-calling and your extreme positions. "Right Wing Nut Jobs" like me DO want the government out of business - when it comes to forcing banks to make unstable high-risk loans to people who can't pay them back just to further a political agenda - but in spite of our being nut-jobs and wackos and neoCons and whatever else you want to call us, we do understand that government regulation in many if not most areas is a necessary thing. There is heavy regulation on the oil industry, but these regulations and inspections are not being done. Oh, I know, I know, Bush, Bush Bush. Get over it. Obama promised to clean up that mess and undo cozy relationships with businesses like BP, but I guess the campaign money and the support of Cap and Trade was just a little too much for him to resist. Let's play a round of golf today, fix the lobbies and fire the inspectors tomorrow.

Protection of the shores from natural disaster is, by law, a local problem. City government, State Government - and, only when asked, Federal intervention. Bush, of course, was blamed for Katrina from day one. Once this spill happened, though, the cleanup was, by law, a FEDERAL problem. Look it up.

Here's a note to Golden - I'm under the impression that Obama is the one to "Stem the rising tide of the ocean" - isn't that what he said? He's the one who promotes the idea that government has all the answers, not me. He's the one that was offered help by the Dutch and the French, with skimmer ships from day one - that he turned down. He's the one who ultimately controls the Army Corps of Engineers who are NOT building sand berms or rock jetties to prevent the oil from reaching the Louisiana marshland. He's the one who has said that this spill is his TOP PRIORITY. Did you know that a reporter went to the Army Corps of Engineers office in New Orleans on Monday? Do you know what they were told at the gate? "Oh - they're all off today. Celebrating the Fourth of July".

No, he's not an underwater maintenance man - but he does have plenty of recourse, plenty of power, plenty of ability to direct a comprehensive cleanup effort through the Coast Guard, the Army Corps of Engineers, a coalition of private businesses and foreign help - maybe after this putt...|||probably because no one seems to have any ideas of what he should have done instead...

all you have is cute little sayings like "more gulf, less golf"... not one actual, real criticism...

true incompetence implies that other actions should have been taken... or actions that were taken were incorrect...

I have yet to see any major poor decisions or lack of decisions on the oil spill...|||ok..lets educate YOU.....BP is a major corporation...right wing nuts complain that the federal gov needs to stay out of big business.....so now when big business takes shortcuts and screws up...which was inevitable...you people scream..where is the fed govt....which way do you want it ....you can't have it both ways....this is BP's mess....let BP take care of it ALL....|||i'm sorry. were you under the impression he was hired as some sort of maintenance man? an underwater plumber? you want smaller government, so we don't have a department to fix ecological disasters caused by large corporations.|||Obama has stepped up his golf, his teleprompter readings, his parties with celebrities, and his date nights as a response to the disaster in the gulf.|||I say......More GOLF

The more time that Obama spends playing Golf means the less time that he is spending spending and the less time he is spending screwing up America.|||Are you kidding? Have you watched Anderson Cooper lately? Not that he's a "liberal" but you guys are always saying how slanted CNN is...|||Liberals don't care about facts. They want power, regardless of the circumstances.|||Yeah. He should have put on a speedo and dove down there with a case of mighty puddy the day it happened.

What a petty complaint.|||I thought you HATED big government! I guess you love that he is powerless to do anything about it.
