Im writing a paper on gender conformity for my social psychology course. it need to be in apa 6th edition and address the biological views and the nature vs nuture part. Ive never written a paper before any ideas?|||First, start out by getting a general framework going: Come up with a theme for your paper (What do you want to say?), then write out bullet points for the intro, the body, and then the conclusion.
Think of this as your "skeleton paper", or "blueprint paper". Having something like this really helps the flow of things when writing a paper, especially when you hit a wall.
As for the paper itself, try thinking about any kind of gender conformity that you have seen, (Ex: Women being portrayed as having to be skinny and beautiful and frail, while men have to be strong, have endurance, and have no fears) and then start coming up with topics or points that you'd like to address or emphasize.
For every idea that you come up with, try and determine whether it is caused by nature (Ex: Men being physically stronger or endure more due to testosterone), or nurture (Ex: Women being told that they should wear dresses and shave their legs to attract men.)
The best thing to do when you don't know what to do when it comes to writing, ironically, is just to start writing!
A technique that I find very useful is to come up with these ideas, write everything I want to say about these ideas, even before writing my introduction.
When you know what your body is going to say, it's far easier to write an introduction and conclusion around them.
And pretty soon, you'll see your short sentences and fragmented ideas turning into longer and longer sentences, more refined ideas, and soon you'll be writing paragraphs before you know it!
Lastly, be sure to go back and edit your paper multiple times. I almost always write something, think I'm finished, then go back and end up writing an entire page extra just from having new ideas pop in to my head after reading my paper.
Good luck!
