How is Obama's plan to move troops from Iraq to Afghanistan "bringing the troops home?"?

Why are the Obama sheep so silent about this flagrant break from his primary campaign promise of bringing the troops home.

As president, I would pursue a new strategy, and begin by providing at least two additional combat brigades to support our effort in Afghanistan," Obama said in an op-ed published Monday in The New York Times, a day before he plans a speech here on his vision for Iraq and Afghanistan.

The decision to surge in Afghanistan may have a certain appeal, but in the final analysis the USA will not be able to maintain that war going perpetually.

Maybe I'm just more well-read than you, but I knew of and endorsed Obama's belief that we needed to focus on Afghanistan well before the primaries.



Smaller country; fewer insurgents; US troops already there. Thus: fewer additional troops needed there than are in Iraq today. Therefore: bringing troops home.|||He always said that through the entire campaign. You just weren't listening. He said he would get us out of Iraq and go after Bin Laden in Afghanistan. Yep he ALWAYS said that!!!! It's nice to hear that our president will want "intelligence" NOW THAT"S A CHANGE! I am not sure that we should be in Afghanistan either .|||Obama will find out that putting too many forces in Afghanistan will have a backlash effect as the current administration already knows. We are being tolerated in Afghanistan because of our low numbers ask Russia about putting too many troops on the ground.|||That was just something he said so he'd win the election. Reality is another story.|||I completely support his decision because that is where the central War on Terror is. I don't know.|||And you're shocked!? Don't you look at the Congressional Record to see how your Representatives and Senators have voted? Don't you look at the political, economic, and historical philosophies which candidates for office hold?!



There are going to be a lot of disappointed people...they just wanted "change they can believe in" which is nothing more than propaganda. To my thinking "redistribution of troops" from Iraq to Afghanistan is not an end to the Iraq War because there will still be American troops in Iraq. This will not be an end to the War on Terror because there will still be American troops in the Middle East.



The War on Terror is wrong...it is the result of American Imperialist Foreign Policy in the affairs of other countries. What we need is a total military withdrawal of all US military outside the US and a closure of all US military bases outside the US. This would save American lives and taxpayers billions of dollars. But, I guess most people are OK with a member of the left-wing of the warfare/welfare/statist party being a warmonger conducting illegal wars and covert military actions around the world in the name of "humanitarianism," "spreading democracy," "saving our civilization," and "patriotism."

The only solution is to bring all troops home....NOW!!!|||As your aware, he never said he would bring them home, only out of Iraq. His followers interrupted that as home, because, it's what they wanted to hear. Much of his campaign promises were generalized, so that the voter could take them anyway they thought Obama meant, much like "change", it's something different to everyone.|||The libs will do anything to keep the troops from coming home with a hero's welcome
