When writing a paper I sometimes need to use a word or sentence which is quoted in my source. For example, the source writes:
One element, "system development and promotion," generated a high. . .
If I want write "system development and promotion", do I put single quotes outside the double quotes and then the source?
For example: Sanchez (2011) explains that ' "system development and promotion" ' generated.... (p. 3)
I have to use the APA format but the 6th edition does not cover this.|||Using both inner and outer "Sanchez "system development and promotion "(2011) ".|||If you are quoting directly from the source, then it has to be - 'One element, system development and promotion, generated a high....(cite).'
If it is a spoken quote, then - ''One element, system development and promotion, generated a high...'' (cite).
If you are taking part of the quote, then - Sanchez (2011) explains that 'system development and promotion' generated ......
Use double glyphs " ONLY for speech quotes.|||The single quotation mark ' is for indirect quotes. Since you are the third party it is appropriate. "One element, 'system development and promotion' generated..." (p. 3)
